Great walking achievement!! Since I've been working from home, I have begun walking with my partner to encourage her. Our target is also two miles. We don't always get there, but I've learnt from my daughter that it helps me a lot to set goals.
Sure is sad that the Supreme Court is such a political issue - and that Trump is getting his way and exerting an influence that will continue so long into the future. Maybe we're fooling ourselves, but Australians regard our high level judges as being somewhat above politics. I guess another difference (among a vast number of differences) between the USA & Australia is that our constitution is so different. Ours is a rather minimalist one - no rights, very little chance of change, and most significant issues being determined by government rather than the constitution/courts.
Stupid politics at work?! That's very unfortunate, but I suppose it's inevitable. I have the rather cynical view that most people are focussed on trying to exert and maintain power and accompanying status, whether it's in relationships, in the workplace or in party politics and government.
I hope the new sewing machine works out well. I must admit I haven't used ours for a very long time, after a burst of sewing when I was in my 20s and 30s. And one of the major factors is the cost, as you mention in comments. The globalisation of the garment industry has really led to prices for clothes in Australia (and I presume also America) becoming very cheap compared with the cost of buying the materials to make for yourself. Of course, this precludes having clothes that are more individual and expressive of yourself - but I've given up on that years ago.
