When it froze in Sussex, where I grew up (rare, although it has this past week), my father would always make us put the plugs in baths and basins, as if the taps dripped, the outlets might freeze and require some work with a boiling kettle to clear them! We also had to keep all doors shut of rooms which were not actually being used - we still do this, but when it meant that the bathroom temperature was 14.9 C the other morning - well, I didn't have a shower that day!
